About Grace Orphan Care
Grace Orphan Care is a pre-school and after-school daycare center for orphans and disadvantaged children in the village of Chilemere outside of Zomba, Malawi. The children that attend Grace are all from households way below the poverty level. Not all children can attend Grace, as they must be referred to us by the elders (chiefs) that govern the surrounding villages and/or demonstrate to our administrators a resounding need for what we provide.
Through the funding provided by Project 1000 Orphan Care Foundation we are able to provide:
daily meals for children*
education for pre-schoolers and tutoring for our after-school children
seeds and fertilizer for the growing of maize and other foodstuffs on our property
maintenance for our infrastructure which includes a water well, maize mill, classrooms, sewer system, desks, etc.
educational materials
scholarships and other financial support for students that graduate from Grace
Our testimonials attest to the value of our program for the children, their families/caregivers and the surrounding villages. Children that attend are better prepared to enter Malawi’s public school system and function in Malawi’s society. They receive needed nutritional support through our feeding program. The caregivers of our children benefit as well in that it frees them up to attend to daily activities needed to provide for their families. Importantly it provides a safe, secure and loving environment in which our children can thrive for the few hours each day they attend.
*During times of famine, the meals we provide may be the only meal our kids get in a day.
